Padiham is a small town located on the River Calder, nestled in the midst of the hills of north-eastern Lancashire within England. It is around three miles west of Burnley and to the south of Pendle Hill. Padiham belongs to the Borough of Burnley. It was formerly an urban district right until the year 1974 and again a civil parish since the year 2002.
It is believed that Padiham dates back to the 11th century at lowest possible, before the Norman Conquest. It was a market town for hundreds of years. Produce from Pendleside used to be bought and sold here. It is interesting to memo that the Padiham market is a tradition that continues till date. It takes place every Wednesday and Friday.
The town grew and was considerably redeveloped during the spell of the Industrial Revolution. The central part is now a conservation region. The population of Padiham be 8,998 people according to the 2001 census. Some nearby attractions include Sherry's Towel Mill and Gawthorpe Hall.
