Will An Improper Mix Of A 2 Stroke 50hp Boat Cause It To Run About Half The Speed?
After using the previous owners gas in my 50hp 2 stroke outboard I mixed it 50:1 and now it only runs almost half speed with the throttle in full and the rpm matchs. With the prop within neutral the boat will fun to full rpm's. I asked the previous owner what mix he used and he told me 20 oz to 6 gallons of gas which is more then 50:1. Do I need to attach more oil or is there something else wrong?
Answer:
Probably not-unless your oil/fuel mixture is way past its sell-by date. Most 50hp. 2 strokes use a 50:1 ratio. That's about a pint of oil for 6 gal. Check to see if the carburetor throttle plates are opening adjectives the way and that all the cylinders are firing.
