What Is Turbo-charging?
Answer:
Turbo-charging involves forcing more air into the cylinders so that a greater volume of fuel and air is converted into power. The trade off is that by compressing the heavens it becomes heated, thereby putting the engine and its components under greater heat stress.
To overcome this, the solution is the inter-cooler, a device that sits between the turbo and the inlet several to cool the pressurised air on its way into the combustion chamber. By cooling the air, the intention is to cut back the heating effect of compressing the air with the turbo. The other by-product of the cooling is that the atmosphere becomes denser, enabling more air to be squeezed into the chamber and a leaner fuel mix to be used. On the other appendage, you can set a richer fuel mix and extract more power without crippling fuel economy or raising excretion level to unacceptable levels.
Most turbo engines are fitted near inter-coolers as standard, but there are larger after market intercoolers that can be fitted to obtain more simplified cooling and more power.
