On many pick up trucks from the 1950's the Serial #'s on the engine block WERE the vin. This is not true in all cases but I do know that when I help restore a 1953 gmc p/u years ago we had to apply for a special title because the engine was missing. Later on I had purchased a 1957 ford w no vin strip as well i would check all doors, the cowl, and EVERYWHERE under the chief frame rails.
