There is basically one difference between weathering and erosion. That is that if a particle is loosened from its initial place by chemical or physical forces, but it is not transported to any other place, the phenomenon is specified as weathering. If, however, the loosened particle is transported (by factors such as rainfall, wind, gravity etc), it is referred to as erosion.

You could say that weathering is the first step of erosion. By forces such as chemical, biological, physical management, rocks may be broken down into smaller pieces. Thus, the shape of the rocks changes. The smaller pieces dislodged during this process may then be carried away by flowing water or strong wind. This is what is known as erosion.

This process is increasing as vegetation cover is decreasing as a result of deforestation or poor agricultural practices. As cover decreases, the potential for soil to be held together decrease (roots are responsible for holding together soil particles).
