What Type Of Characteristics Of Gas In Kinetic Molecular Theory?
Answer:
A gas consists of particles called molecules which are hard point piles. The molecules are in random motion and obeys Newton's law of motion. Total number of molecules is large colliding with one another and with the walls of the container and shifting their velocities at every collision. However, overall distribution of molecular velocities and randomness of motion is maintained. The volume of the molecules is a negligibly small fraction of the volume settled by the gas. No appreciable forces act on the molecules except during a collision. As such the molecules follow a straight path between successive collisions called free towpath. The collisions are elastic and of negligible duration. That is, time spent during collision is very small compared near the time the molecules spend in moving independently.
