What Is The Mass Percent Of Chlorine In Ccl3f? Florine? Carbon?

I don't have a clue as to how to calculate my Chemistry class and have the above query. Please help

Answer:
The mass fraction of each of the constituents is the weight of the constituent divided by the weightiness of the whole.

The molecular weight of CCl3F is the sum of the atomic weights of its constituent atoms.
Element, Weight (from a periodic table or other reference)
C, 12.01115
Cl, 35.453
F, 18.9984
The molecular counterweight is 12.01115 + 3(35.453) + 18.9984 = 137.36855.

C% = 12.01115/137.36855 = .0874 = 8.74%
Cl% = 3(35.453)/137.36855 = 106.359/137.36855 = .7743 = 77.43%
F% = 18.9984/137.36855 = .1383 = 13.83%

Since the weights are always in this proportion, it doesn't matter how much of the compound we consider. One molecule is as honest as a mole or a ton.
