Genotype is a term for describing the genetic makeup of people and other living things. It depicts the entire constitution of genetics including alleles which are not responsible for any outward features. The genotype of an organism determines the types of genes it possesses or its DNA structure. It is different form phenotype which is responsible for the physical features of different organisms.
One of the primary distinguishing factors is that genotype of an individual can be determined only by observing DNA but the phenotype can be determined by the individual's physical features. It is in actual fact a biological concept but nowadays it is also used in computer terminology to describe genetic programming and evolutionary algorithms. Thus contained by the context of computers a genotype can be explained as the solution structure created by genetic program.
