Is your son paying for the housing, or are you, even if it is with medical or public assistance? If so, they do not hold the right to tell you that you cannot see your son, and manage his affairs for him.
If he gave you the key, then there shouldn't be a problem, as long as you aren't moving in and living at hand. They can change the locks, but they have to give you a different set if that is what your son wishes.
