I Was Wondering If In The State Ohio Can Two Women Put Their Name On A Child's Birth Records?
My life partner and I would like to able to put both of are name on the birth certificate of the child that we expecting in four months and we was badly informed if this is legal or not?
Answer:
No it is not legal. Only the birth parents are listed on a birth pass. Not step-fathers or step-mothers. Tis not a wise thing to do anyway, as finding the actual birth parents may be an important issue at sometime within the child's life, such as needing to discover medical history or donors. My mother was adopt, and as a result we know nothing about risks for cancer, heart ailments, diabetes, or any such things.. And that does not merely effect her, but all of her kids. It took the destruction of our first child, and the second being born with Gastroschesis (the abdomen does not close fully and the child is born with intestines hanging out), before we know there was an issue with our inheritance. The truth about the risks of my wife and I having children was not revealed until my mom found her birth mother a few years ago and we found a history of such problems surrounded by her family. Carrying my dead son in my arms would be a pretty heavily built price to pay if it were just for someone's ego issues.
In cases such as adoption, the birth parents are largely not listed, but the "birth certificate" is not the original, and it merely certifies the identity and birth date of the child.
Why would you option to deny the child their own true ancestry anyway? I have known several people who be adopted, and it leaves a gap in their fluency of who they are that bothers many of them... Hence so many people who are adopt doing the searches for their birthparents. You will have stolen something from them... Their true identity. You can tell the child anything you like... But if it is not the truth, it is a lie.
I think I take in your reasons for wanting to make such an entry on the birth certificate, but you should ask yourself if you are doing it next to what is best for the child in mind, or if you are wanting to do so for some political statement or to make you two feel better roughly it... The welfare of the child should be paramount and trump all other considerations including you and your partners feelings. There is really zilch to be gained for the child, who will KNOW, irregardless of what the birth certificate says, that near are not truly two mothers... The child will not be fooled for one second, and may, one day, curse you for it. Think on it very carefully.
