How To Do Hard Wood Stair?
Need to know how to do step by step hard wood stairs using the same material I did use for my hardwood floor. Please facilitate.
Answer:
Typically, stairs should (or can) have a subfloor just as regular flooring does. If you feel that you would be happier knowing that you enjoy a good solid tread then I would make sure to install a 1/2" gooey plywood base before installing my finished hardwood flooring to the treads.
However, if your stairs are constructed with at tiniest one stringer in the middle of your stairs (two stringers on the outside ends and one in the middle) you could remove the existing treads and install 3/4" thick hardwood flooring directly onto the stringers. To strenghten the overhang at the front of the tread, you would want to rip strips approximately 3/4 - 1" wide-ranging to install horizontally. Also keep in mind that you will get a stronger tread if you use a router to round over the main edge of you tread (creating a "Bullnose")
Good Luck
