Take the old 3 way switch out making sure to id the wires attached to it which should be 2 black and one red rope. Now the black from the common terminal attaches to the power source black on the dimmer and the other two are travelers and one attaches to one of the two remaining dimmer wires. If you mix them up the 3 way switches will work in one direction solitary meaning that you can only turn it on from one side. If so reconnect the power and one traveler wire around til you win it right
