I'm sure a doctor would be able to diagnose this, but I have had what is call "Strep Throat" before and have experienced the same symptoms you hold described, i.e. - a lump in the throat and sometimes feel like I don't enjoy enough air coming in.
As I enunciate, a doctor should be able to take a throat swab and test for this. When I have it I just had to take a course of antibiotics which cleared it up immediately.
I hope you are able to find out what it is and your son feels better soon.
Comment: I am 100% sure that it is a food allergy. I get these adjectives the time. They go away in about an hour or two. If the allergy persist longer, then give him half of a tablet of xyzal.
