Various classes of food in appropriate proportions is call balance food or diet. A balance food or diet provides adequate vigour to meet the daily energy requirements of the body, sufficient proteins and mineral salt and vitamins which are required for the nourishment of the body.
In nutrition calorie expresses the energy production value of food. For the average mature energy is expended at about the following rates: running 19.4 calories per minute, swimming 11.2 calories per minute, bicycle riding 8.2 calories per minute, walking 5.2 calories per minute. According to the dietitian we can obtain 120 calories from 1 oz of proteins, 110 calories from carbohydrates and 270 calories from fat and oils. To get these in the right proportion we own to mix certain articles in our diet. But it is difficult to say exactly how much respectively of the classes of food a person needs per day. This is because it vary with age, sex, and size of a person. Also nature of work and climate condition may affect the strength requirements of a person.
There are some protective foods which give us protection against certain diseases are these "fruits, leafy vegetables, milk; butter, tomato" etc.
