Can You Give Me Some Advice? Employer Wants Me To Sign Letter Saying "I Quit" And He'll Give Me A $2500 Check Less Taxes.

And said he would NOT stop me from drawing UE Benefits, I live in Michigan, he fired me yesterday, I have 10 days to respond. Any advice here? He's a Lawyer, I'm not.

Answer:
Bgirl have an excellent question and no matter what the guy tells you he can other renege and tell the state you quit and prove it with the letter, because usually it will cost him money if you start getting benefits.  UE rules alter a lot by state.  In some states I think you can still receive benefits if you quit or are fired, but only after a cost period.
The other possibility is that he thinks you may sue him for firing you if you have grounds and I don`t know he thinks you do.  If that is an issue, get a legal representative fast or contact the EEOC.
If there are no lawsuit matters involved, I lean toward taking his donate.  He can fight you on collecting benefits whether you sign or not.  I'm sure the $ 2,500 can be well used.
Visit your unemployment organization or call and get more info to make outcome.
Comment: Did you sign? ....Please don't...... Let us know what happened when you hopefully said NO
Answer: Sounds fishy to me! Been on UE a couple times, and know it is very hard to collect benefits if you  quit you own to prove that you were working in an unsafe workplace or a hostile environment. I would not sign, I would contact ANOTHER lawyer that practices employment nouns. Also check out website workplacefairness.org.
