Why Is It Important To Use Games To Introduce, Teach Or Reinforce A Concept In Math?
Answer:
As a high school student (and the kid of a mom that's been a don for +15years), I can tell you that games work because games:
- make learning FUN
- form learning INTERESTING
- force me to PAY ATTENTION, ASK QUESTIONS, and TRY to UNDERSTAND the lesson (because there is usually a prize if you win the game)
- appeal to my COMPETITIVE side
- are not actual WORK
- give me an excuse to TALK to my FRIENDS
- bequeath me an excuse to be LOUD and NOISY and MOVE AROUND
- give me an excuse to SHOW OFF
- give me an excuse to LAUGH, SHOUT, and JOKE
Games and activities play an considerable role to make a lesson interesting and easier to understand. Several games in the beginner's height can be used to make mathematics easier for the students. A teacher can use apples, ball, oranges etc to demonstrate the simple procedures such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division, probabilities, permutations, combinations etc. The practical examples which include students to play games can easily be learnt by the students. For example, a tutor can make use of a box with balls of different colors to explain the concept of simple variable sampling. This allows the students to learn the lesson for longer period of time as compared to the lecture deliver by using simple techniques.
