Difficult one to answer

Answer:
In most cases, no difference... It is just another way of saying matching thing

If I own 10 shares of General Motors, I can say I have "Stock" within that company, a share is what you call the individual unit of Stock

Shares are the incremental amount of stock you can own. In other words, you say you own stock in IBM and someone asks how much, you would say that you hold 10 shares.
