What Is The Worst Book You've Ever Read?

"The Dark is Rising" by Susan Cooper... I read it in fifth grade, which might have be a bit early, but I remember picking it up, reading the first five chapters, and not getting why the protagonist suddenly had superpowers or why he even care if some mysterious dark force was terrorizing some village contained by another world... Maybe I was mistaken, but it seemed to me that he somehow got superpowers from symbols that be scattered in a different dimension but somehow the same dimension. I remember putting the book down after the chief character, who was about thirteen, beside no martial arts training, no fencing experience, and who had just held a sword for the first time after getting sliced to bits by some gloomy knight, somehow defeated the knight and other reinforcements in two pages. It was freshly dumb.
