The thing that make it harder is the fact that the lid is broke as well. The best thing to do is to properly inform the entity looking after the rats for you and if possible, try and find a cheaper tank for the mean time or even a more expensive one if you can afford simply before you go away.

This way it can back to get rid of any worries that you may have and can help to solve the problem as ably.
Everybody worries about things back home when they are on holiday. It's just a reality of life!  It is a bit ironic though because the purpose of a holiday or vacation is to relax! Your concern is certainly well-founded, however.

The best route is to walk off your pet rats with someone who you can trust and who hopefully has some prior experience with the animals. Explain to the soul in detail about your concerns and show that you are concerned for the person's safety. You can show the creature how to take the same precautions that you normally lug to protect yourself from the rat that bites. Another idea is to get another lid or cage specifically more protective temporarily. If you 'cover all your bases' so to speak, by ensuring that no one is hurt by your pet, near is no reason to worry. Then you will be able to delight in your vacation.
