My Dog Is Constantly Biting At The Base Of Her Tail And Around Her Anal Area. What Could Be Wrong?

This is usually a sign of one of two things.
Either she has impacted anal glands, and they need instruction book squeezing out - a dog groomer or veterinary nurse can do this.
Or - she has fleas and this is the area that she cannot actually score, so she is nibbling instead.
The first is the most likely.
Comment: If we cannot find a cause and the vet think it is something obsessive - could we try using that nail biter bitter stuff so that the dog won't like the essence? Would it be safe?
