I'm sure ur not having problems w/it anymore but 4 future reference sleep surrounded by kittens eyes r completely normal. When they get sleep in their eyes later grab a wash cloth or paper towel, turn ur hot hose down on, soak some of ur wash cloth/paper towel, let it cool down (dont want to burn their eyes), gently stroke the gunk in circular motions. Make sure everything u use is clean & dont use anything even remotely sharp bc they do have a leaning to jerk their heads.
