It depends on the people that are taking care the rat if they are being used as lab rats afterwards yes they are rats are not suppose to be used to be tested on and they should be treated like pets like cats and dogs not in the lab near chemicals that is the wost thing for an animal to be treated like and if they are contained by a dirty cage then yes they are being feebly treated but if their cage is clean and they have food after they are being treated good i hope this answers your question
