My Dog Has Anal Gland Cancer, How Will I Know That His Last Days Are Here? He's Happy And In No Pain At The Moment

I have looked up and am not able to find the answer ,what do i need to look out for during the final days of my dogs life(he have anal gland cancer)he is in no pain at the moment and although he is 16yrs old(human years) he acts liie a puppy.I option to know what to expect when his time to go to doggy heaven comes,what are the sypmtoms.Obviously if he is in strain I will let him go to doggy heaven. I surmise he will tell you in his own way when he is prepared to go.  It may be that he refuses food, he may go peaceable and depressed, or stop doing things that he used to like..
I feel really sad for you, but he is presently very old and I am sure he has have a good life with you.
We own a saying about letting pets go:  Better a week too soon than a afternoon too late.  I hope this helps.
